While it's unrealistic to think there's a single all-purpose filter that will do the perfect job on any particular well, this filter comes closer than any others I've tried. Its rather short effective life can be extended on some wells by putting a sediment-only filter upstream from it.

What is there to say? The filters work as they are supposed to work; we have a lot of iron and sediment in our well water, and the whole-house filter really makes a difference; the filter lasts about 4 months.

Does what it says. Removes large sediment particles from water supply. Easy to replace. Recommended if your water supply has problems with sediment, however, if fine sediment or chemicals are a problem you will of course need a different filter.

With the 7 stage 20" Crystal Quest Whole House Water Filter you will be able to filter those contaminants from your water entering your home. It will provide you with great tasting contaminant free water for years as the cartridges in this whole house system will provide contaminant free water (80,000 gallons) on average depending how bad your water is. It also flows through a 6 stage cartridge that has KDF 55, KDF 85, coconut shell carbon, ion exchange resin and two 1 micron filter pads. The first stage water flows through 20" solid carbon cartridge to remove insecticides, pesticides, industrial solvents and other contaminants. Stage 2 and 7 water flows through a one micron filter pad to filter out suspended particles. Like silt, sediment, sand, dirt, and other un-dissolved matter. In stage 3 water flows through coconut shell carbon to remove organic contaminants like chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, (VOC's,) PCB's, MTBE's, insecticides and hundreds more of chemical contaminants from your water. Then stage 4 water flows through an ion exchange resin to remove or reduce heavy metals like lead, copper, aluminum and water hardness. Then in stages 5 and 6, water flows through a KDF 55 and KDF 85 media to oxidize iron and hydrogen sulfide into an insoluble matter, result is it then attaches to the media. Whole House Water Filter

    Product By Crystal Quest
    Lowest Price : $149.00

    Product Description
Single 10" replaceable cartridge Whole House water filter. 6-stage water filter provides great tasting water, and removes hundreds of contaminants from water. For city or well water. Whole House Filter cartridge is a 6-stage filter cartridge that consists of 1 micron filter pad, KDF55, KDF85, Ion Exchange resin, GAC, and another 1-micron pad, that allows it to remove a LOT of contaminants from your drinking water. Why to use 6-stage whole house filter? 1. Carbon is extremely porous and provides large surface area for contaminants to collect. Carbon-only filters must also use their capacity for chlorine removal, resulting in a shortened life. They also may use bituminous coal carbon, which is good for removing chlorine, but not as effective at removing chemicals. We use high-grade coconut shell carbon that is most effective at removing chemicals. 2. Tests on KDF/GAC cartridge have shown 99%+ chlorine removal past 20,000 gallons of water. In comparison, carbon cartridges of comparable volume drop below 90% effectiveness after only 4,000 gallons. Filter Capacity: 40,000 gallons, or 3+ years.

    Clearwave Electronic Water Softener System

    Product By L.L.C.(40 customers reviews)
    Lowest Price : $129.90

    Product Description

Use less soap, and remove scale from your pipes - continuously, automatically and for only about $5 in electricity a year. Clearwave is the most advanced computerized anti-scale device available today. Its computer chip is programmed to bombard water passing through your pipe with over 200 different electromagnetic low frequency pulses. These electromagnetic pulses have been scientifically proven to increase the electromotive attraction potential of the water to mineral salts. The result is that the mineral salts (mainly calcium bicarbonate) stays dissolved in the water instead of converting to insoluble calcium carbonate and attaching itself to the inside of pipes as scale. Existing scale in pipes, water heaters, toilets and faucets begin to soften and dissolve away. Recommended for dishwashers, washing machines, coffee makers, and boilers. Clearwave can even replace base exchange softening systems and the associated maintenance costs. Installation of the Clearwave is simple. Mount to the main incoming water pipe to the home with pipe clips, wrap the antenna leads around pipe and then plug into a 110V power supply. One unit handles incoming supply pipes up to 1" in diameter. For pipes 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" use two units in series. Works with all types of pipe including: copper, pvc, galvanized, and stainless steel. Manufacturer's part number CW-1.

    Technical Details
    • Use less soap and remove scale from your pipes
    • Costs less than $5 per year
    • Replaces base exchange softening systems

"Useless Junk! Please don't waste your money." 2010-10-02
    By Jared
I was enticed by the decent reviews of this product. After a few weeks of my own research, I decided to buy one myself and keep my fingers crossed that it would work. My main concern regarding the water in my house is the calcium buildup, which this product claims to treat/prevent. The product manual also claims that if you are unsatisfied with this product for any reason that you can return it to the place of purchase within 90 days. I will address this problem later...A little background. This water conditioner claims that it will not only prevent buildup, but actually reverse the effects of existing calcuim buildup. This product was installed in a brand new house with a brand new electric water heater. I had my water tested and the grains of calcium were 23 (this product claims to work by itself up to 25). I gave the product 2 months before I attempted to return it. Over those two months, I determined the product to be a scam. Calcium built up on my shower heads, clogging them, around the sink drains, in my new dishwasher, and in my toilets. My old house is located in the same water district as my new house, so I went into this knowing the effects the untreated water has on fixtures. With this knowledge, I though the Clearwave water conditioner would, at the very least, slow down the buildup of calcium...but it didn't.So, still well within my 90 return window guaranteed by the manufacturer, I contacted amazon and requested a return. They stated I needed to contact the company that fulfilled my order (Smarthome.com) and request a refund through them. I contacted Smarthome.com and they stated the order was actually fulfilled through Amazon. So back to Amazon I went. Amazon then stated their return policy was 30 days and they would only offer me 50% of my money back for this product. Arguing with them got me nowhere, so now I am stuck with this worthless piece of junk. For anyone still interested in this product, more info can be found here:

"It Works - Shower-door Cleaning Becomes Easier" 2010-08-30
    By P. Do (S. Diego)
I owned a salt system water softener before and it was leaking hence on a market to try something new. This Clearwave unit works in a way not as obvious as the salt system. We don't feel the water was slippery as the salt system provided nor obviously see more bubble foam in the laundery wash. I've paid careful attention on the faucet residue and shower-door hard-to-remove soap scum.We continue to clean our bathroom as usual, using a squeeze after a day of showers, while the Clearwave system is in action. After the 3rd week, I noticed the shower-door scum were somewhat lesser. I set out to carefully clean the shower-door thoroughtly this time knowing that in the past it will cummulate the scum very quickly after a week or so. To my pleasant notice, simply using the squeeze after the shower, the scum is not coming back as before. The mineral deposit on the faucet is noticeablely reduced. At last, we have our clear glass door again with the Clearwave unit. I assume other benefits such as clean copper pipes, low residue hot water tank and others which are not visually noticeable quietly in the work.I feel good about the unit from the points that we're no longer use salt and don't have to waist clean precious water to regenerate the salt system any more but still can enjoy the "low maintenance" of the bathrooms and the faucets around the house.

We have well water with the lovely sulfer smell. We were very anxious to try this out. Installation was a breeze! We started noticing the next day that the drinking water was softer on the pallate. It has now been a month and we are seeing much less iron staining in the bathtub, and our soap is sudding !!!!! Thank you so much! It's amazing

"Not to shabby of a filter" 2010-09-08
    By ChaseofIdaho
I continuously buy these for our home filtration unit. We have private well water that has a ton of iron in it. Amazon has one of the best prices on this particular filter that I've found and I'm always very pleased with shipping and speed of arrival. Probably due to how much iron I have in my water but this filter never quite lasts as long as it is rated for. I usually change it about every 5-6 weeks when they are rated for around 12. I change it more frequently or I start to see very small amount of residue begin to build of in the toilet and shower heads. As long and they are changed to the month(ish) range I'm really pleased with their performance and will continue buying and using them for my home.

    "Pleasantly surprised" 2010-05-16
    By Vince (Los Gatos, CA)
I can't say I noticed much difference in my water after replacing the 50 micron filter with this one because I don't have a big problem with sediment. But I am pleased that the flow rate in the house doesn't seem any different. It's been installed about 2 months now. I expect it won't last as long as the 50 version but if my water is cleaner then it's worth it.

    UPDATE Sept. 17, 2010

I learned something the hard way -- CHANGE THE FILTER REGULARLY! I was waiting for the flow rate to go down as a sign to change this filter but it never decreased. Then a month or two ago I noticed the water starting to smell and it really got pretty bad. I'm on a well so wasn't sure if it was the ground water changing but then thought of the filter. Oh my gosh, it was gross. Black & slimy & stinky and the paper had torn so the water was flowing right through with no filtering, hence no pressure loss. This was about 6 months use on a well (no chlorine) which was way way too long at it turned out. I'd say the filter should be changed every 2 months.

    "Hey Culligan Man!" 2010-01-21
    By PeterPumpkinEater
Nice filter. I was having problems with the blue top filters not working at all, I determined they were a few millimeters too short, allowing the water to bypass the media all together. These have more rubber at the ends and I'm getting a better seal, capturing much more rust. Plus, they are cheaper than Home Depot and fit my GE housing.

Multiple water main breaks and living in a trailer has resulted in my having to use the Culligan heavy duty filter. With this filter I don't have to remove the faucet strainers. It does the job simply and easily. I even travel the U.S and Canada with the canister attached to my hoses.

"Not for untreated well water!" 2010-09-04
    By R. Dufresne (New England)
If you are using this for well water, please note that right on the packaging when you get it- in the left hand front bottom corner- that it should not be used for untreated well water. I am not sure what else you would use if for. I used this filter years ago when our well was new and I do not remember there being such a warning. One might want to go to the 10 micron or finer size for well water and expect to change it more. I use the 10 micron filter from the same company and like them very much over the years. The 4.5 micron is also good but requires frequent replacement when a well is new or there is a lot of rain.I was hoping to use this as we just put in a new well pump and there is a lot more sludge in a new installation, but I am hesitant to use it now due to the explicit warning.

    "Inexpensive filter, works great" 2010-06-03
    By Fletcher (Kent, OH)
Our home water is supplied by a personal well that unfortunately comes with some brownish sediment that discolors the water and makes it taste a little too much like minerals. Completely harmless, but not very pretty, especially for company. Previously I had been looking into expensive water softeners or whole house filters in the $200+ range. Thankfully I found the little culligan whole house filter for $32 and this two pack of 20 micron filters for another $7 (so cheap!).It's been a week now, water is crystal clear. I like that I can see the filter through the casing, currently it has a light brown tinge so I know it's working. Since the water has been so clear I think I'll be sticking with the cheaper and longer lasting 20 micron filters, they're supposed to last 4 months or 16,000 gallons, putting my total filtration costs at a cool ~$12 a year, far cheaper than my initial expectations when looking into larger carbon filters or water softeners.I couldn't be happier!

Almost purchased 3 of the 2-packs. But when the shipping cost multiplied for each 2-pack added, I can get them for less at Home Depot. Even with the sales tax added in.Now if the shipping was fair and only went up a few cents for each additional 2-pack added in, then I would have made a purchase here.

Your skin and hair will feel softer from the very first shower. No more dry itchy skin or unpleasant odors from the chemicals in your water. The amount of wasted water and release of salt into the environment has increasingly become unacceptable. When deployed in a system, this unique technology induces the formation of microscopic calcium crystals which effectively eliminate the side effects of hard water. The NaturSoftTM media does not require any regular maintenance. NaturSoftTM media does not participate in any reactions it merely promotes them. Therefore, the material is not sacrificial and it does not get consumed resulting in its exceptional long life.

Well, this is one of those purchases that I agonized over for a while - mostly because of the 'softener'/descaler unit. There really isn't enough information out there to prove these work; but, in my case, I couldn't fit the whole house filter into my available space without trading my existing softener for this descaling unit at the same time. I also like the idea of not adding salt if the descaler really does work. Before installing this combination system we had a traditional salt water softener for the whole house and a reverse-osmosis filter at the kitchen sink. Both were installed when the house was built 7 1/2 years ago; so we don't have any scaling issues. Our water hardness is around 16 gpg and we are on a city water supply that is pretty good except we are at the high end of the safe range for chlorine. A couple of years ago I replaced our 2 water heaters with a single tankless unit - so we don't have much water hanging around in the plumbing and we were able to see results from the filter almost immediately. At this point, I'm going to review this Pelican system based on what I've seen so far and then I'll add to the review over time. There is a lot to say already, so I'll try to keep it brief - if you still have questions, then ask and I'll answer the best I can.

*** Water Taste and Quality ***
This is a hands-down win for the Pelican system. There is no question that the water out of this system tastes great, and we love being able to drink water from the fridge and cook with water from the faucet without dealing with the bad taste in our local water. Before this system, we would get ice from the ice maker and then fill a glass with water from the RO system. That tasted great until the glass sat there for a while and the ice started to melt - at which point I just got in the habbit of throwing the ice away and starting over (I drink a lot of water...). Now, even the ice tastes great! My wife has also commented several times that she feels like she doesn't need lotion after taking a shower anymore. I suspect that is a result of the reduced chlorine, but I guess it could be something else.

    *** Water Test Results ***

As an engineering type, I decided to do a water test with the incoming water vs the water coming out of the filter and 'softener' units. The biggest difference is the chlorine is now absent - and I think this is probably the biggest difference we are tasting in the water too. I was also a bit surprised to see that the hardness dropped a couple of grains after coming through the Pelican system - and I wasn't expecting that at all.Our incoming water supply isn't that bad; but at least I know everything is being pulled out that should be.

    *** 'Softener'/Descaler Unit ***

This is the biggest area of uncertainty for me. Is it voodoo or is it really doing something? I will keep this review updated if we start to have hard water issues or run into other problems with this descaler unit. What I do know is you shouldn't expect your water hardness to decrease with this installed. It is supposed to eliminate or reduce scale build-up and I hope it lives up to the advertising claims. Personally, I've never had a problem with the slick feeling of salt-softened water; but, if you do, you will be happy to know that this 'softener' doesn't have that problem at all. After the install, I could tell immediately when taking a shower that the water was no longer being softened, and it's funny how much more soap is needed with hard water. At this point, we haven't noticed any additional water spotting on the dishes or in the shower - so I guess that's a good sign (although it has only been a couple of weeks). As I said before, I'll keep the review updated if we start to have issues and I'll adjust the overall rating accordingly.

    *** Installation ***

The installation was fairly easy. I'm a huge fan of SharkBite connectors for stuff like this and I also used 1" PEX flexible pipe (although copper would have worked just as well). Aside from the required fills and flushes, I probably spent around 4 hours total getting this installed. The biggest time sink is having to fill the filter and letting it sit for 48 hours before beginning. After that, there are several steps where you have to run water through backwards, fill the 'softener' for about an hour, etc...The red air-release button on the sediment filter did leak a bit, but the directions mention that and also say how to fix it - which was really simple. Just be sure to throw a rag/towel over that button before pressing it:).After getting it installed, we did get some black carbon that came through the pipes for about a day. This was most evident in the toilet tanks, which I ended up cleaning out so we wouldn't have to deal with black bits in the toilets for weeks on end. If you have a water heater, this black stuff will probably be metered out of the hot water tank and into your pipes for a few weeks. One great thing about this combo is that the filter + 'softener' actually use a bit less space than my old Sears softener - and I'm always happy to get more space in the garage!

    *** Quality Control ***

Since I don't have enough info yet on the 'softener', I would give the combo 5 stars if it weren't for a couple of quality control issues. First, the installation kit was missing the hose adapter so I ended up buying one at Lowe's for doing the initial carbon soak and flush on the filter. Secondly, the cover for the 'softener' was cracked and it looks like it probably shipped that way since there wasn't any damage to the packaging at all. I called their support people who sent out a new lid, but I have to take the top of the unit apart to replace it - so I just super-glued it to avoid the hassle. For this price, I shouldn't have had either of these problems.

    *** Conclusion ***
I would recommend the whole-house filter with no reservations; but it's easy to see how & why it's working and we can taste the immediate results. Pelican has a great product here. The 'softener', on the other hand, is a bit harder to recommend since I haven't had it long enough to have complete confidence that it is really keeping any scale from building up in my pipes, appliances, or tankless water heater. Everything I read seems to indicate that it should work, but I'll have a better idea in a couple of months. My plan is to disconnect the pipes from the tankless heater and take a look inside to see if there is any additional scale build-up in two months and then again in a year. I won't be able to see all the way through it, but I'm hoping to get a good idea of what's going on.

    *** UPDATE 5/19/2010 ***

Here are some additional observations now that this has been installed for over a month:

    1) Juice cans sink. I'm not sure why; but, when we would throw a can of juice into a sink full of water to defrost, it would float when the old softener was installed. With the Pelican system the juice cans sink instead of floating. I'd love to know why that is if anyone has any theories.

    2) The showers get dirtier quicker than they did due to water spotting from the hard water. If you have a salt softener currently installed, you will notice this difference.

    3) We still haven't noticed any difference in the laundry or dishwasher. We are using the same amount of soap and everything is still coming out clean. The dishes don't seem to have the same problem with hard water spots as we see in the shower - maybe it's the rinse-aid at work.

Another note is that the replacement lid I mentioned in the 'Quality Control' section never arrived - so it looks like that is a knock against the reliability and support. (EDIT: Pelican was monitoring this forum and I did receive the replacement lid a couple of days after posting this note.)

    *** UPDATE 6/23/2010 ***

This morning I spent some time detaching pipes around my tankless water heater to take a look. After a bit more than 2 months of use, the pipes still look completely clean - which seems to support the theory that the descaler is doing its job. I'll continue to check periodically; but I'm starting to be converted.

    Here are some other updates:

    1) We've started using a squeegee on the glass shower door when we finish and that has pretty much resolved the dirty shower issue. My wife commented that she has to clean the showers more often, but she's happy to trade that for the benefits of the whole-house filter.

    2) My daughter went to her barber (hair stylist?) and the lady asked what she had changed because my daughter's hair looked healthier than she had ever seen it. I suspect this is once again due to the lack of chlorine in the water - but, with my permanent buzz in place, I'm probably not the guy to ask about healthy hair:).

    *** UPDATE 8/31/2010 ***

This morning we had a load of dishes that just wouldn't get clean after multiple washes. I decided to take the dishwasher apart to see if something was clogged; and, it turned out that a cookie cutter was keeping the center sprayer from spinning. Anyway, since everything was taken apart, I was also able to inspect the interior parts for signs of hard water build-up. Fortunately, I found all the dishwasher internals to be completely clean. It seems like this is one more data point that the descaler seems to be doing its job.

The water hardness in my house is medium. Still, bad enough for the water to stain everywhere. It's been 1.5 weeks since install and there's not a significant difference. Water still stains and tastes the same. Per their website, it could take upto 4 weeks to wash out the existing hardness buildup. So, I'm just going to wait and see. (Not that there's much of a choice). For the price of the equipment and labor, I was expecting the water quality to change dramatically. Still am.

This system works well, but beware the vent for the sediment filter leaks. You have to tighten the spring inside of the filter before inserting the filter media. This is not covered in the literature and that is why this system gets a 4 star verses a 5 star rating. With a system this expensive this manufacturing defect should be fixed or at least mentioned in the installatioin instructions.

By M. Bishop (Parkland, FL USA)
I have had the system installed for a little less than a week, but my wife has already commented that it has made a difference to her hair, and our towels definitely feel softer. There is also no "slimy" feel to the water that we used to have with our old salt-based system, and that neither of us liked - it never really felt like you were getting all the soap off your skin or hair. I will say that at the moment it is not softening as much as that older system did, but that is not an issue for me.Pelican has been great at responding to my questions before and after my purchase. I also thought that the price was reasonable, especially compared with what competitors wanted to charge me for salt-based systems. It is a little early to give 5 stars as I do not know how the system will hold up over time, but I would recommend this to others based on what I have seen so far.

We had this system installed in Dec 2008. I absolutely LOVE it! We normally go through winter having very dry skin with cracked fingers (even with a humidifier on the furnace) and we have had NONE of that this year. I am a stay-at-home mom so my hands are constantly in and out of water and this is one of the best purchases we have ever made. VERY HAPPY!!!

    Product Description

The PelicanTM Carbon Series PC600 Whole House Water Filter is simply the best on the market. No where will you find a whole house water filter that is more affordable or addresses as many contaminates as the Pelican PC600. With its multi-stage filtration process and high performance media you get sparkling clean water from every tap. Imagine, spring like water through every faucet of your home. Your skin and hair will feel softer from the very first shower. No more dry itchy skin or unpleasant odors from the chemicals in your water. The NaturSoftTM System represents the superior alternative with respect to dealing with the symptoms of water hardness without resorting to ion exchange (salt) based systems.

    "What a scam" 2010-08-22
By Patrick Madden (White Lake, MI United States)
From what I can tell, anyone who gave this piece of garbage more than one star has not had it more than a couple of months and has no clue what is coming. I spent $2,000 on this and it is the biggest waste of money I have ever encountered. First of all, if you talk to an actual scientist or expert, there is no way to soften water without salt. It is not scientifically possible no matter how badly you want to believe it. This system does not recycle when it supposedly softens water, which means that the water inside fowls. We are looking into replacing it now, and have had it for 3 years now. Two years of that time a nightmare trying to get it to work, but now we are ready to say we wasted our time and money. The first year, it sortof work, but I think only because of the prefilter. You can get a filter like the prefilter anywhere, like Home Depot. All my white clothes and sheets are orange, our water smells like dirt, my $1,100 Bosch dishwasher is taking a hit with the scale, the icemaker/water dispenser on my brand new refrigerator has been trashed. I am furious, but as you can see from the other reviews, the customer service at Pelican is a joke. Once they have your money, they will do nothing to help you except try to sell you more equipment to tack on it that doesn't work either. That is how scams work. Be careful of the websites you read that supposedly rate the Pelican highly, they are actually put out there on the Internet by "Pelican". I am trying to get the word out there by leaving reviews like this, so nobody else wastes there money like I did and has to go through this. It appears that I'm not the only one. The biggest joke, is how they get you to sit there and wait for this thing to clean your plumbing of all scale.. wait for it... wait for it... oops - your warranty is over. Too bad. So sad.

"Beware and do testing before buying" 2009-12-21
    By Leslie Gustafson
I have had this system (saltless softner and whole house filter) for 1.5 years now. Bought it when my daughter was born so we didn't have to worry about sodium levels in the drinking water. It seemed to work (maybe was just me wanting it to seem like it after spending so much) for the first 6 months. Then I really started to see the white residue build up again, it seemed to be worse then before. I contacted Pelican and they asked me to have my water tested and see what the copper ppm where. So I did, it came out to be .5 ppm - this they told me voided out the warranty and the system had stopped working due to the copper levels. So I did some research and the copper levels of .5 ppm is on the low end to any cities public water. Pelican offered to sell me a salt softner at a slight discount (still $1000), but there is no way I am doing business with this company after they have such a unrealistic guidlines on the kind of water it will work with and were unwilling to do anything else to make the $2000 purchase function like it stated it would. On their site it just says "High levels of copper will effect the out come. So BEWARE and have your water tested before buying.

"too hard of water for system" 2009-04-30
    By kak590 (st. paul, mn)
i bought this system two years ago. since, i've had to call in to exchange media for a more commercial brand because my water was so hard. the system still does not claim to do what is published on their site. i have horrible hard water build ups in shower, on all appliances that use water(dishwasher, water dispenser in frige, coffee maker, washing machine)i've also got 'cloudy' ice cubes, water spots on everything that comes from dishwasher. i've called the company numerous times, they still stand by what is written and that's it. also, pipes are getting clogged with 'gunk'. anyway, we are getting rid of it and going back to salt softeners. our water is some of the very hardest. it measures a 20 on the hardness scale. this product has given me more work to do, i've had to switch to extremely high chemical cleaning agents to get the water stains off and for my dishwasher. it's just been more work for me since it's been installed, and the fact that it doesn't do what they claim.

    By T. Smith (Texas, Houston)
We installed the Pelican filter and softener 2 months ago and can visibly see the quality improvement of the water...works well, not as soft as the rainsoft system, however love not having to use salt. Our skin is not dry, our bathroom stays cleaner (no build up), and we use much less soap. Definately improves city water greatly!

"Great Whole House Water Treatment System" 2008-03-03
By Josh (Apache Junction, AZ United States)
This system is great. It took about about 6 hours to install as I have not done any plumbing before. After a couple of days of watter with a little bit of a gray tint the water feels and tastes so much better. Every home should have a water treatment system, and if you are looking for one around this price point, this is the one to get. It uses no salt and requires no backwashing (after initial setup). Get it, you'll be happy.

"Good price for what you get" 2010-03-04
    By PeteC (NY)
The filter is nice and does what is promised. When my new filter arrived it was sent without a filter cartridge. So I would guess this explains the better price from amazon vs Home depot. When I was shopping and comparing filters, both Home Depot and Amazon showed this filter complete with a cartridge. So, amazon got the balance of the money I saved with the replacement cartridges I just ordered. Keep this in mind when ordering this product from amazon.

    "Decent double filter" 2009-09-25
    By W. Linton (Columbus, OH)
It is a straight forward item. It uses two standard filters. My plumber had no trouble on installation. If you have done some checking, a lot of filters look good, are cheaper (a bit), or are a lot more expensive. This one bridges those gaps. It also has a high gallon per minute rate..which is critical for a whole house filter. A lot of those posted are not capable of being mounted for whole house. We have had no problems with g.p.m. since installation.

    "Best filter" 2009-05-09
    By Coffee Girl
When I need to replace the filter for my cuno whole house filter system. I use the Aqua Pure filter. It eliminates all the chlorine from my water and I have the best water around. Without this filter all you smell is the chlorine. I hated taking showers or cooking when my filters ran out. They tend to be more expensive then anything I could find at the local home improvement stores but, the quality of the filter is far more superior than anything these stores carried.

"very low pressure drop, no complaints" 2010-03-21
By Autobeef LLC (South Hero, VT)
The FXHSC is a great filter, with a very low pressure drop compared to the FXHTC filter. Our system filters lake water (Lake Champlain) & uses the FXHSC filter in combination with 2 other filters & a UV light. It picks up a fair amount of sediment but the water pressure stays fairly constant over the life of the filter, which is great. No complaints & the price is right.

By J. Tomczyk (New Hampshire, USA)
The product is functionally fine. There are some slight imperfections in the plastic webbing but they work great. I now only have to clean the filters on my washing machine once a year, if that. The filters catch almost everything. It was really nice getting them delivered for 2/3 the price as HD stores.

"Seems to work as advertised. Cheaper at Home Depo" 2007-04-26
    By Philip S. Knofczynski
I have a well and use a water softener. Without additional filtering the water still has a somewhat metallic taste due to iron content. I tried one of these filters, seems to take care of the taste as I was hoping. They were just installed so I cant say what the longevity is. Your better off buying filters locally at, seems they are cheaper than buying online.
